Directors (Sindaci) of the Milan Merchandise Exchange (1808-1865)
The decree of 6 February 1808 established that the Exchange sessions were to be presided over by a controller, assisted by four deputies; their appointment was entrusted to the Chamber of Commerce.
A decree of 10 March 1810 turned over the election of the controllers to the agents de change (agenti di cambio) and sensali's assembly. Although this provision introduced a form of self-government, it was actually only implemented after 1848. From this date on, a director and two deputies were elected directly by the stockbrokers, with another two deputies were elected by the merchandise brokers.
