European markets wary as Milan slides

News Image (Teleborsa) - Piazza Affari finishes with sharp losses, sapping investor optimism on Europe's markets, which, in turn, jitter to a flat close. On the US market trading is up for the S&P-500.

EUR / USD makes timid gains, progressing by +0.41%. Gold jumps +1.93% in an upbeat session. Crude oil rises in an upbeat session, with Light Sweet Crude Oil gaining as much as +2.8%.

The Spread declines to settle at +116 basis points, a reduction of 6 BPs, while the Italian BTP 10-year yield is +3.59%.

Among the major European bourses, Frankfurt reports no significant price changes in the absence of fresh cues, London is modestly up (+0.57%), and stagnant Paris trades to a near stalemate.

A day of gloom for the Borsa Italiana as the FTSE MIB drops -1.27%; similarly, the FTSE Italia All-Share loses a lot of ground as it retreats -1.16% to end at 35,904 points.

The FTSE Italia Mid Cap holds the line (+0.09%); the FTSE Italia Star slips a fraction (-0.43%).

Banco Bpm (+3.37%), Banca Popolare Sondrio (+2.40%), Bper (+2.32%) and Telecom Italia (+2.09%) among the best performing blue chips in Piazza Affari.

DiaSorin reports the heaviest losses, ending the session -2.57% down.

Interpump Group declines by a notable -2.47%.

Stmicroelectronics is struggling, -2.09% down.

Enel trades with a small loss of -1.31%.

El.En (+4.48%), Digital Value (+4.12%), BFF Bank (+3.96%) and Carel Industries (+3.88%) are among Italy's top mid-cap stocks.

GVS reports the heaviest losses, ending the session -10.34% down.

Intercos suffers losses of 3.40%.

Investors hurry to sell as Ferretti declines -2.49%.

OVS plunges -2.03% on intense selling.
