US futures jump after cooler-than-expected inflation data

DJIA futures up 295 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - 12 Jun - US futures jumped higher after data showed inflation in May had eased more than expected.

The Consumer Price Index was unchanged from the previous month and rose 3.3% on the year, both slower than expected.

Core inflation followed suite rising 0.2% and 3.4% versus forecasts of 0.3% and 3.5% respectively.

The data comes just hours before the Federal Reserve meeting on interest rates.

Stubborn inflation has prompted the Fed to put back the timetable for rate cuts and prompted traders to recalculate their expectations for the number of cuts this year.

Futures on the Dow Jones were up 295.00 points, or 0.76%, S&P 500 futures were up 43.50 points, or 0.81%, while futures on the Nasdaq were 169.50 points, or 0.88%, higher.
