UK shares end lower with focus on elections, US data

Haleon slips (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 26 Jun - UK shares closed lower as investors looked ahead to the first US presidential debate on Thursday while bracing for the first round of voting in the French election next weekend and the UK elections in July.

Traders are now awaiting fresh US inflation data due on Friday with the release of May's personal consumption expenditures price index, the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge.

Among individual stocks, Haleon shed 0.27% at 331.60 pence after the healthcare spinoff said it agreed to sell its nicotine replacement therapy business outside the US to Dr.

Reddy's Laboratories for 500 million pounds.

The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.41% at 8,247.79 points.
