UK shares end lower, extending losses

Ocado soars (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 16 Jul - UK shares closed lower, extending recent losses, amid cautious trading.

Investors continued to digest a slowdown in China and the impact an assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump at a rally over the weekend that boosted expectations the Republicans will win the presidential elections against incumbent Joe Biden.

Among individual stocks, Ocado rose 5.90% at 360.50 pence after the retailer raised its cashflow targets.

While Rio Tinto fell 2.33% at 5,071.00 pence after the miner left its production guidance largely unchanged for 2024.

The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.22% at 8,164.90 points.
