UK shares end lower amid downbeat global trading

Miners weigh (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 04 Jun - UK shares closed slightly lower amid rising growth concerns following recently disappointing data from the US.

Oil firms were lower as an effect.

BP and Shell dropped 3.74% at 463.20 pence and 2.21% at 2,721.00 pence, respectively.

Precious metals miners were also lower, with Fresnillo losing 7.22% at 572.00 pence and Anglo American closed 4.16% lower at 2,399.00 pence.

Antofagasta dipped 3.34% at 2,141.00 pence.

Utilities and consumers staple stocks were moderately higher as investors shunned away from riskier assets.

On the data front, in May, total retail sales in the UK rose 0.7% compared with the same year-earlier period when they increased 3.9%, according to the latest survey released by the British Retail Confederation (BRC) and consultancy KPMG.

This was higher than the three-month average growth of 0.3% and lower the 12-month average rise of 2.0%.

The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.35% at 8,233.46 points.
