UK shares end lower amid China woes, Trump concerns

Burberry sinks (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 15 Jul - UK shares closed lower as investors digested the failed assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump this weekend.

Global investors also digested data showing today that China's gross domestic product grew less than expected in the second quarter as weak consumer spending and demand weighed.

Traders also braced for a key week of commentary from Federal Reserve officials ahead of the central bank's meeting on July 30-31.

Last week data showing that key US data showing that inflation in the world's biggest economy fell more than expected in June rekindled hopes of an interest rate cut this year.

Among individual stocks, luxury giant Burberry sank 16.08% at 744.00 pence following a disappointing first quarter performance that led it to replace its CEO and slash its dividend.

The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.85% at 8,182.96 points.
