UK shares end lower amid China woes, IT outage

Beazley sinks (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 19 Jul - Shares in London closed lower after a software update by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike caused a global IT outage, leading to grounded flights around the world.

Beazley dropped 3.34% at 651.50 pence.

Concerns over the health of the economy in China soured sentiment and weighed on miners.

Miners were broadly lower.

Rio Tinto shed 1.76% at 4,916.00 pence and Anglo American closed 1.75% lower at 2,246.00 pence.

Also weighing, UK retail sales volumes dropped by 1.2% in June following a 2.9% rise in May, the Office for National Statistics said. A Reuters poll of economists had forecast sales volumes would drop by 0.4% on the month.

The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.60% at 8,155.72 points.
