UK shares end flat to lower ahead of key US data, earnings
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 28 Aug - Shares in London closed flat to lower as investors geared up for key economic data and earnings from the US.
Friday's US PCE price index which could prove decisive in cementing of sinking growing hopes for a 50 basis point cut in September rather than just a quarter point.
While today, all eyes will be on Nvidia's earnings. The chip designer, which has risen almost 160% to date this year, is widely seen as a barometer for all things AI-related and has played a key role in driving indexes higher as AI frenzy rises.
Among individual stocks, shares of the UK financial services company Prudential closed higher after it lifted its interim dividend by 9% to 6.84 US cents despite a sharp drop in net profit.
GSK rose after a US court said it will hear the pharmaceutical giant's appeal, along with other drugmakers, to end more than 70,000 lawsuits claiming links to heartburn drug Zantac and cancer.
The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.02% at 8,343.85 points.
