UK probes Hewlett Packard's deal for Juniper Networks

Probe to see if planned deal would lessen competition (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 19 Jun - The UK competition watchdog said it was launching a merger inquiry to see whether Hewlett Packard Enterprise's planned 14 billion dollar acquisition of Juniper Networks could give rise to competition concerns.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it was considering whether it is or may be the case that this transaction, if carried into effect, would result in the creation of a relevant merger situation.

"And if so, whether the creation of that situation may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services," it said in a statement.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise said in January it would buy networking device maker Juniper to support its artificial intelligence business.
