Truist Financial Q2 net income 0.83 bln usd vs 1.23 bln

Net interest income falls (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 22 Jul - Truist Financial said its net income available to common shareholders in the second quarter was 826 million dollars, or 0.62 dollars per share, compared to 1.23 billion, or 0.92 per share, in the same period a year ago.

The fall in profit was impacted by a 5.1 billion dollar post-tax loss on the sale of some securities as well as lower net interest income.

NII in the three months was 3.58 billion dollars from 3.66 billion a year ago.

'In the second quarter, we continued to see solid momentum in our core banking businesses as evidenced by strong year-over-year growth in investment banking and trading revenue and continued expense discipline," said Bill Rogers, Truist Chairman and CEO.

"Client deposits are stabilizing, and asset quality metrics remain within our expectations. While loan demand does remain muted, we are encouraged by an improvement in our dialogue with clients and our expanded capacity to support their needs.".
