Oil prices rise after Libya call to halt exports

Eastern government issues "force majeure" (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 26 Aug - Oil prices moved higher after Libya's eastern government said it was halting crude exports, exacerbating tensions in the Middle East following Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon.

The eastern government called a 'force majeure' on all fields, terminals and oil facilities, the authorities said in a statement on Facebook.

The decision is the latest step in a political struggle between the eastern government and the UN-recognised government based in Tripoli over control of the central bank and oil revenues.

At 1401 the price of Brent was up around 3% at 81.50 dollars.
