Japanese shares close sharply lower; tech stocks dip

Tokyo Nikkei 225 down 3.28% at 37,869 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Tokyo , 25 Jul - Japanese shares closed sharply lower, extending a recent selloff amid weak Asian markets after losses on Wall Street overnight.

The Nikkei index closed down 3.28% at 37,869 points.

In Tokyo stock market dealings technology shares again sank as disappointing earnings from US giants Tesla and Alphabet hammered the sector.

Nissan Motor sank 6.98% after its quarterly profit slumped.

The yen rallied to the strongest level in 2-1/2 months ahead of the Bank of Japan's meeting next week.
