Japanese shares close higher, extend rally

Tokyo Nikkei 225 up 0.61% at 41,831 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Tokyo , 10 Jul - Japanese shares closed higher, extending a recent rally amid weak Asian markets.

The Nikkei index closed up 0.61% at 41,831 points, climbing to new record highs.

Investors digested mixed inflation data showing that Japanese producer prices picked up slightly in June, with the year-on-year rate rising to 2.9%, but grew month-on-month less than expected at 0.2%.

Japanese stocks rallied last week on foreign buying on a weak yen, and as recent data pointing to a weaker economy seemed to ease pressure on the Bank of Japan to increase interest rates, helping support sentiment.
