The Nikkei index closed down 0.01% at 39,594 points after slipping yesterday below the 40,000-point mark.

In Tokyo stock market dealings technology stocks were higher, reversing a recent selloff as chipmakers tracked a rebound in US artificial intelligence major Nvidia Corporation.
