Japan shares close higher ahead of Powell speech

Nikkei 225 up 0.40% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Tokyo, 23 Aug - Japanese share closed slightly higher, ahead of a key speech from the US Federal Reserve chief Jerome Powell.

Investors are hoping that today's appearance by Powell at the Jackson Hole Symposium will provide insight into where US interest rates will be going this year, which could affect Japan's own monetary policy and the yen/dollar exchange rate.

The Nikkei 225 closed up 0.40% at 38,364.27 points,.
