Indian shares close higher as Modi ally pledges support

BSE Sensex rises 3.20%, NSE Nifty up 3.36% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Mumbai , 05 Jun - Indian shares closed sharply higher, recouping some of the losses posted the day earlier after a key ally of prime minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata party pledged its support to to the formation of a new government.

Stocks had tumbbled in trade yesterday, after Modi's party lost its majority in parliament, meaning it needed to rely on allies to remain in power for a third term.

The BSE Sensex jumped 3.20% to end at 74,382.24 points after slumping 5.76% in the previous session. The NSE Nifty rose 3.36% to 22,620.35 points after falling 5.93%.
