India shares soar as exit polls predict big Modi win

Sensex up 3.39% at 76,468 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Mumbai, 03 Jun - Indian shares closed sharply higher, leading the gains amid strong Asian markets.

Mumbai stocks rebounded from their first weekly decline in three to hit fresh record highs after exit polls released over the weekend indicated that the NDA alliance, led by the incumbent BJP party, was set to win the 2024 general elections, opening the way for a third consecutive term for prime minister Narendra Modi.

The BSE Sensex closed up 3.39% at 76,468 points, while the NSE Nifty closed up 3.25% at 23,263 points.
