Huawei plans product launch just hours after Apple event

Huawei seen trying to upstage US rival (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 02 Sep - China's technology giant Huawei plans to hold a product launch event this month just hours after Apple unveils its new iPhone 16 lineup in a move seen widely as an attempt to upstage its US rival.

The event is due to take place on September 10, Huawei said in a post on Chinese X-like service Weibo.

Apple's annual iPhone update is scheduled for September 9.

Huawei's 'leading, innovative, and disruptive product is here,' the company's consumer and automotive technology head Richard Yu said in his Weibo post.

Huawei, once the biggest smartphone player in the world, saw its handset business seriously undermined by US sanctions that deprived it of access to the latest semiconductors.

Its resurgence has challenged Apple in China.
