Hong Kong shares close sharply higher led by tech stocks

Hang Seng up 2.87% at 18,430 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Hong Kong , 19 Jun - Hong Kong shares closed sharply higher after yesterday's weak session, outperforming their Asian peers.

The city's stocks bounced back from near two-month lows hit last week, with the Hang Seng index recovering the 18,000 mark, as they tracked gains on Wall Street overnight. Wall Street's key benchmark indexes hit yesterday fresh highs.

The Hang Seng index closed up 2.87% at 18,430 points.

In Hong Kong stock market dealings energy and basic material shares were broadly higher.

Technology stocks rallied, with semiconductor-related stocks leading the gains after US chipmaking giant Nvidia overtook Microsoft to become the world's most valuable company amid the ongoing AI boom.

The Hang Seng Tech Index jumped 3.65%.
