The Hang Seng index closed down 0.35% at 17,113 points, slipping from a two-week high after rebounding on Friday from a three-month low and rising more than 1.5% last week.
Data showing a bigger-than-anticipated decline in credit demand in China last month, indicating fragile investor sentiment, added to concerns over the country's economic growth.
In Hong Kong stock market dealings technology stocks slipped after Friday's rebound, with the Hang Seng Tech Index closing down 0.99%.
Property stocks fell, extending a recent selloff, with the Hang Seng Mainland Properties Index closing down 0.84%.
Investors awaited awaited Chinese industrial production and retail sales data due on Thursday.
Traders also braced for a string of key June quarter earnings, with Alibaba, China Unicom Hong Kong, CK Hutchison Holdings and Lenovo due to report tomorrow.
