Hong Kong shares close lower below 18,000-point mark

Hang Seng down 0.94% at 17,941 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Hong Kong, 14 Jun - Hong Kong shares closed lower, halting yesterday's rebound and falling to a two-month low amid mixed Asian markets.

The Hang Seng index again slipped below the 18,000 mark.

In the city's stock market dealings liquor makers and other consumption-related shares sere among the biggest decliners.

Technology shares also were among the biggest advancers as they tracked an overnight rally on Wall Street amid a continued artificial intelligence-fueled rally, with Apple soaring after it announced plans to incorporate AI into its flagship devices.

The Hang Seng Tech Index fell 0.84%.

Trade tensions continued to weigh on investor sentiment amid reports of more US trade scrutiny against Beijing and after the EU unveiled tariffs of between 17% to 30% on the import of Chinese electric vehicles.

Investors awaited China's industrial production, retail sales and fixed-asset investment data for May due on Monday.

The Hang Seng index closed down 0.94% at 17,941 points.
