Hong Kong shares close flat after selloff

HSI unchanged at 17,523 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Hong Kong , 09 Jul - Hong Kong share prices erased earlier losses and closed flat after a two-day drop amid strong Asian markets.

The Hang Seng index closed unchanged at 17,523 points after slipping yesterday to a near three-month low and posting in June its first monthly loss since January.

In the city's stock market dealings technology shares rallied as they tracked their US peers higher, with the Nasdaq index hitting yesterday new all-time highs amid a continued hype over artificial intelligence.

The Hang Seng Tech Index closed up 0.96%.

Property shares dipped for a third straight session, with the Hang Seng Mainland Properties index down 4.79%.

Investors awaited China's inflation figures due on Wednesday for further clues on the state of the country's economic recovery.

Traders also look forward to a meeting of China's political leaders from July 15 to 18 known as the Third Plenum, amid expectations that important economic measures could be announced during the event.

Investors also awaited a two-day testimony by Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell beginning later in the day and the US consumer price index reading due on Thursday.
