Hong Kong share prices close lower; tech stocks dip

Hong Kong HSI down 0.94% at 17,469 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Hong Kong , 23 Jul - Hong Kong share prices closed lower, halting yesterday's rebound amid mixed Asian markets. The Hang Seng index closed down 0.94% at 17,469 points as speculation over a Trump presidency continued to weigh on investor sentiment.

In his first presidential term from 2017 to 2021, Trump maintained a largely hardline stance against China, slapping steep tariffs on the country and fuelling a prolonged trade war between the world's two major economies. Investors now digested news over the weekend that US president Joe Biden had dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed vice president Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

In Hong Kong stock market dealings technology shares sank, retreating from yesterday's rally.

The Hang Seng Tech Index closed down 1.82%.
