Heathrow July passenger traffic 7.98 mln passengers, up 4.2%

Cargo traffic 128,942 metric tons, up 8.3% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 12 Aug - UK airport operator Heathrow said that in July 7.98 million people travelled through the airport, up 4.2% from a year ago, and bringing the total since January to 47.813 million, a 6.9% annual increase.

In the 12 months to July, 82.229 million people travelled through the airport, up 11.2%.

The company said that for three consecutive weeks, from July 8-28, it has surpassed the 1.8 million passenger weekly traffic. Cargo traffic in the month rose 8.3% to 128,042 metric tons, bringing the total in the first seven months to 892,954 metric tons, up 14.2%. In the 12 months to July, cargo traffic was 1.542 million metric tons, up 13.7%.

While Heathrow continues to attract new routes and record passenger numbers, the latest data following the introduction of the ETA shows that Heathrow has lost 90,000 transfer passengers on routes operating to and from the seven countries included in the scheme, since its introduction in 2023.

"This is devastating for our hub competitiveness. We urge Government to review the inclusion of airside transit passengers, every little bit of extra competitiveness that Government can deliver for aviation will help deliver vital growth for the whole of the UK economy," the company said.
