European shares open moderately lower in cautious trade

FTSE 100 down 0.54%; DAX down 0.40%; CAC 40 down 0.69% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milan , 15 Jul - European shares opened moderately lower in cautious trade, with the Stoxx 600 index down 0.40%.

In the region's stock market dealings most sectors were lower, with household goods and banking stocks among the biggest decliners.

UK luxury giant Burberry sank 11.03% following a disappointing first quarter performance that led it to replace its CEO and slash its dividend.

Investors assessed the impact of an assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump at a rally over the weekend.

Global investors also digested data showing today that China's gross domestic product grew less than expected in the second quarter as weak consumer spending and demand weighed.

Traders also braced for a key week of commentary from Federal Reserve officials ahead of the central bank's meeting on July 30-31.

Last week data showing that key US data showing that inflation in the world's biggest economy fell more than expected in June rekindled hopes of an interest rate cut this year.

At 0730 GMT the London FTSE 100 was down 0.54% at 8,207 points, the Frankfurt DAX was down 0.40% at 18,969 points, the Paris CAC 40 down 0.69% at 7,670 points, while in Milan the FTSE MIB was down 0.68% at 34,347 points, and in Madrid the IBEX 35 was down 0.71% at 11,171 points.
