European shares open mainly higher in cautious trade
London FTSE 100 down 0.31%, Milan's FTSE MIB up 0.26% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milan, 20 Aug - European share prices opened slightly higher in cautious trade as investors looked ahead to the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium later this week for indications on US monetary policy.
US Fed chairman Jerome Powell is expected to provide support for an interest rate cut in September in a speech slated for Friday. The symposium is set to run from Thursday to Saturday.
At 0721 GMT, London's FTSE 100 was down 0.31% to 8,330.70 points while in Frankfurt the DAX was 0.23% higher at 18,470.15 points. In Paris, the CAC 40 inched up 0.17% to 7,514.41 points while in Milan the FTSE MIB added 0.26% to 33,353.00 points and in Madrid the IBEX 35 gained 0.35% to 11,141.65 points.
