European shares mostly lower in early trade

London closed for holiday (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milan , 26 Aug - European share prices were mostly lower in early trade, taking their lead from weaker Asian markets and falling back in the wake of gains posted Friday after Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell indicated the time has arrived for the US central bank to begin lowering its interest rates.

Powell said inflation had declined "significantly", adding the labor market was no longer overheated, and "conditions are now less tight than those that prevailed before the pandemic.' London's stock exchange was closed for a bank holiday.

At 0715 GMT, Frankfurt's DAX index was down 0.24% to 18,590.75 while Milan's FTSE MIB was 0.10% lower at 33,618.00 points and in Madrid the IBEX 35 slipped 0.05% to 11,273.00 points. Paris was bucking the downward trend, with the CAC 40 up 0.20% at 7,591.87 points.
