Europe shares end mostly higher in cautious trading

FTSE down 0.02%; DAX up 0.62%; CAC 40 up 0.16% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 28 Aug - European shares closed higher as investors globally looked ahead to the release of earnings from AI giant Nvidia after the close of the New York trading day.

Investors are also gearing up for key US data later this week.

Friday's US PCE price index which could prove decisive in cementing of sinking growing hopes for a 50 basis point cut in September rather than just a quarter point.

On the European data front, French consumer confidence rose to 92 in August from 91 in July but remained below the long-term average of 100, according to data released by the statistics office Insee this morning.

In Italy, seasonally adjusted industrial sales in June 2024 increased by 0.1% compared to the previous month while volumes were down 0.7%, data from statistics institute Istat showed. Compared to the year earlier, calendar adjusted Italian industrial sales in June 2024 fell by 3.7% in value terms and were down 3.3% in volumes.

According to data released by the European Central Bank, in July 2024 the annual growth rate of the eurozone's broad monetary aggregate M3 was 2.3%, unchanged from June The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.02% at 8,343.85 points, the Frankfurt DAX rose 0.62% at 18,813.66 points, the Paris CAC 40 added 0.16% at 7,577.67 points, while in Milan the FTSE MIB gained 0.30% at 33,880.05 points, and in Madrid the IBEX 35 closed 0.04% higher at 11,331.01 points.
