Europe shares end mostly higher ahead of Fed
FTSE up 0.55%; DAX up 0.82%; CAC 40 up 0.35% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 19 Aug - European shares closed higher as investors looked ahead to a speech from US Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell scheduled for Friday for indications on the central bank's interest rate policy.
Investors have virtually written off an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve in September as a dead certainty and are now assessing prospects for further cuts before year end.
The London FTSE 100 closed up 0.55% at 8,356.94 points, the Frankfurt DAX added 0.55% at 18,428.76 points, the Paris CAC 40 gained 0.70% at 7,502.01 points, while in Milan the FTSE MIB rose 0.68% at 33,266.32 points, and in Madrid the IBEX 35 closed 1.38% higher at 11,101.02 points.
