Europe shares end lower after Trump assassination attempt

FTSE down 0.85%; DAX down 0.86%; CAC 40 down 1.19% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 15 Jul - European shares closed lower as investors assessed the impact of an assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump at a rally over the weekend.

Global investors also digested data showing today that China's gross domestic product grew less than expected in the second quarter as weak consumer spending and demand weighed.

Traders also braced for a key week of commentary from Federal Reserve officials ahead of the central bank's meeting on July 30-31.

Last week data showing that key US data showing that inflation in the world's biggest economy fell more than expected in June rekindled hopes of an interest rate cut this year.

The London FTSE 100 closed down 0.85% at 8,182.96 points, the Frankfurt DAX dropped 0.86% at 18,608.35 points, the Paris CAC 40 fell 1.19% at 7,632.71 points, while in Milan the FTSE MIB lost 0.59% at 34,375.92 points, and in Madrid the IBEX 35 closed 0.76% lower at 11,164.76 points.
