Banks were mostly higher with UniCredit gaining 2.14% at 34.80 euros in Milan and Societe Generale adding 1.54% at 22.41 euros in Paris.

Luxury stocks were also higher.

Kering and Hermes rose 2.45% at 316.15 euros and 2.02% at 2,170.00 euros, respectively in Paris, while Brunello Cucinelli closed 2.50% higher at 92.40 euros in Milan .

Germany-based drug discovery and development company Evotec jumped 13.91% at 8.35 euros after Bloomberg reported that buyout firms have been studying the company.
