EU cuts planned import duties on China-made Tesla EVs
Also cuts import duties on other China EV makers (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 20 Aug - The European Union is cutting planned tariffs on Tesla vehicles imported from China to 9% compared to a previously signposted 20.8%.
The move is part of the EU Commission's ongoing anti-subsidy investigation into imports of battery electric vehicles from China.
The Commission also reduced a series of planned import duties on other Chinese EV firms, with tariffs now set at 17% for BYD, 19.3% for Geely and 36.3% for SAIC.
In June, the EU said it would slap higher tariffs on Chinese EV imports which it said benefitted 'heavily from unfair subsidies' and posed a 'threat of economic injury' to EV producers in Europe.
"The disclosure of draft definitive findings is an intermediate procedural step in a trade defence investigation," the Commission said. "Once the Commission has analysed all comments by interested parties, and Member States have given their opinion, the final decision will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union.".
