Eni starts gas production at key offshore field in Italy
Italy government keen to boost domestic gas production (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Milan, 19 Aug - Italian energy group Eni said it had started gas production from the most important gas development project in Italy.
In a statement, Eni said the gas, coming from one of the four subsea wells drilled in recent months in the Strait of Sicily, was transported to the Gela processing plant where it will be processed and fed into the national grid.
The Argo Cassiopea production project, operated by Eni in joint venture with Energean, plays a key role in increasing the use of domestic natural gas for energy security.
The Italian government, keen to beef up domestic gas output, has offered incentives to energy companies to boost gas production with a view to providing energy-intensive companies with cheaper gas.
