Elon Musk threatens ban on iPhones after Apple-OpenAI deal

Threatens ban of Apple devices in his companies (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 11 Jun - Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of social media platform X, threatened to ban iPhones from his companies citing "data security" following Apple's partnership with OpenAI.

In a series of posts on X Musk said the software integration between the two companies amounted to 'an unacceptable security violation.' "It's patently absurd that Apple isn't smart enough to make their own AI, yet is somehow capable of ensuring that OpenAI will protect your security & privacy! Apple has no clue what's actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI. They're selling you down the river," he said.

Apple, widely seen as having fallen behind rivals on AI matters, announced yesterday a partnership with OpenAI while unveiling an update to its voice assistant Siri.

As part of the update, Siri can tap into OpenAI's popular ChatGPT chatbot.

Apple said users will be asked for permission to share their questions with ChatGPT and requests and information would not be logged or stored in cloud.
