CostCo shares rise after retailer lifts membership fees

Shares up 1.4% in premarket trade (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 11 Jul - Shares in Costco Wholesale Corp rose in premarket trading after the retailer said it was increasing its annual membership fees for the first time since 2017.

In a statement on June sales, the company said it was lifting the membership charge from 60 to 65 dollars.

The price of its premium membership will rise from 120 to 130 dollars.

The new charge will be effective as of September 1 this year, it said.

The retailer said in the five weeks ended July 7 its net sales rose to 24.48 billion dollars, an increase of 7.4% compared to the same period last year.

At 1300 GMT CostCo shares were up 1.4%.
