Chinese stocks close little changed on growth concerns

Shanghai Composite down 0.27% at 3,078 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Shanghai , 03 Jun - Chinese stocks erased earlier gains and closed little changed, underperforming their Asian peers.

Investors sentiment was subdued on lingering growth concerns after recent private PMIs painted a mixed picture of the country's economy.

Private figures out today showed that China's manufacturing sector grew more than expected in May and expanded for a seventh straight month, while official PMI data released last week showed an unexpected contraction in the manufacturing sector.

The Shanghai Composite index closed down 0.27% at 3,078 points, while the Shenzhen CSI 300 closed up 0.25% at 3,588 points.

The two indexes fell between 2% and 4% from 2024 highs over the past two weeks after soaring nearly 20% since February.

Mainland stocks were little changed for the month in May as a recent rebound driven by optimism over fresh stimulus measures from Beijing somewhat cooled.
