Chinese shares close slightly lower; data, earnings eyed

Shanghai Composite closes down 0.14% at 2,858 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Shanghai , 12 Aug - Chinese shares closed slightly lower, hovering at near six-month lows in cautious trade after falling over the past weeks on continued growth concerns.

The Shanghai Composite closed down 0.14% at 2,858 points, while the Shenzhen CSI 300 fell 0.17% to 3,325 points.

Both indexes slid about 0.8% last week, posting a third straight weekly loss.

Today the mainland markets underperformed their regional peers on continued growth concerns following a string of weak economic data for July.

Traders now awaited Chinese industrial production and retail sales data due this week.

Investors also braced for a string of key June quarter earnings, with tech giants Tencent Holdings, Alibaba and JD.com due to report this week.
