Chinese shares close lower near 6-mth low

Shanghai Composite down 0.60% at 2,850 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Shanghai , 14 Aug - Chinese shares closed lower near six-month lows in cautious trade, lagging their regional peers.

Mainland stocks extended recent losses after falling over the past weeks on continued growth concerns.

Data showing a bigger-than-anticipated decline in credit demand in China last month, indicating fragile investor sentiment, added to worries over the country's economic growth.

Investors also awaited Chinese industrial production and retail sales data due on Thursday.

Traders also braced for a string of key June quarter earnings, with Alibaba, China Unicom Hong Kong, CK Hutchison Holdings and Lenovo due to report tomorrow.

The Shanghai Composite closed down 0.60% at 2,850 points, while the Shenzhen CSI 300 fell 0.75% to 3,309 points, both hovering around their lowest levels in half a year.

Both indexes were down about 0.8% last week, posting a third straight weekly loss.
