Chinese shares close lower

Shanghai Composite down 0.24% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Shanghai , 27 Aug - Chinese shares closed lower, with the Shanghai Composite falling 0.24% to 2,848.73 points and the Shenzhen CSI 300 ending 0.57% lower at 3,305.33 points.

On the data front, industrial profits in China increased by 4.1% compared to the year earlier after growing 3.6% year on year in June, according to figures from the National Bureau of Statistics.

In the first seven months of the year, industrial profits rose 3.6% from a year earlier. This compared with a 3.5% increase in the first six months of the year and the 2.3% drop recorded for the whole of 2023, the data showed.

Shares of PetroChina, the listed arm of state-owned China National Petroleum Corp., rose 2.98% after it said late Monday that its net profit rose 3.9% on the year to 88.61 billion yuan for the six months ended June 30, as revenue climbed 5.0% to 1.55 trillion yuan for the half amid higher oil prices.
