Chinese shares close higher for 5th session

Shanghai Composite up 1.26% at 2,959 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Shanghai , 09 Jul - Chinese shares erased earlier losses and closed higher for a fifth straight session amid strong Asian markets.

Investors awaited China's inflation figures due on Wednesday for further clues on the state of the country's economic recovery.

Traders also looked forward to a meeting of China's political leaders from July 15 to 18 known as the Third Plenum, amid expectations that important economic measures could be announced during the event.

Persistent concerns over a trade war with the European Union weighed on sentiment in early trade, after Beijing threatened to retaliate against the EU's imposition of additional tariffs on the imports of electric vehicles.

Concerns over increased tensions with Taiwan also kept sentiment in check following reports last week that China had seized a Taiwanese fishing trawler operating near the Chinese coast.

The Shanghai Composite closed up 1.26% at 2,959 points, while the Shenzhen CSI 300 rose 1.12% to 3,439 points.
