China shares close flat near 6-month lows on growth concerns

Shanghai Composite up 0.07% at 2,879 points (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Shanghai , 16 Aug - Chinese shares closed little changed near six-month lows, lagging their regional peers.

Caution prevailed after losses over the past weeks as growth concerns continued to keep sentiment in check.

Pledges of stimulus from the People's Bank of China provided little support. The central bank's governor said the PBOC will prepare more 'incremental policy measures' to make sure the economy hits its growth target.

The PBOC is set to announce its decision on the benchmark loan prime rate next week after unexpectedly slashing the rate in July to boost growth.

The Shanghai Composite closed up 0.07% at 2,879 points, while the Shenzhen CSI 300 rose 0.11% to 3,345 points, both hovering around their lowest levels in half a year.
