AT&T call and text logs hacked

Does not see material impact on its results (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 12 Jul - The US telecommunications group AT&T said that hackers accessed and copied call logs containing records of customer calls and texts from May 1 to October 31, 2022, as well as on January 2, 2023.

The company said it believes the hackers accessed an AT&T workspace on a third-party cloud platform.

"The data does not contain the content of calls or texts, personal information such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, or other personally identifiable information," the company said.

The company believes the data includes call and texts of nearly all of its wireless customers and customers of mobile virtual network operations using its wireless network.

"While the data does not include customer names, there are often ways, using publicly available online tools, to find the name associated with a specific telephone number," the company said in a regulatory filing.

AT&T said that it has taken additional cybersecurity measures in response to the incident including closing off the point of unlawful access.

It does not expect the event to have a material impact on its financials.
