Asian shares close mixed, Tokyo lower

Nikkei down 0.66%, ASX 200 up 0.76%, KOSPI down 0.14% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Tokyo, 26 Aug - Asian shares closed mixed, with Tokyo closing down on a weaker yen.

Traders also showed concern about mounting geopolitical tension after Israel's strike on Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the People's Bank of China (PBOC) maintained the rate on its one-year policy loans, or the medium-term lending facility (MLF), at 2.3%.

The rate was cut by 0.20 percentage points in July.

The PBOC injected 300 billion yuan worth of MLF loans at 2.30%. Additionally. It injected another 471 billion yuan via seven-day reverse repos, keeping borrowing costs steady at 1.70%.

The Nikkei was down 0.66% at 38,110.22 points.

In Sydney, the S&P ASX 200 closed up at 0.76% at 8,084.50 points, while in Seoul the KOSPI closed down 0.14% at 2,697.99 points.

In late trade, the Shanghai Composite index was down 0.04% at 2,853.17 points and the Hong Kong Hang Seng index was up 1.00% at 17,789.00 points. In Mumbai the Sensex index grew 0.74% to 81,682.47 points.
