Tokyo Nikkei 225 down 1.77%, S&P ASX 200 up 0.12% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Tokyo, 19 Aug - Asian shares closed mainly lower on profit after recent gains.

Japanese shares closed sharply lower on concern that a stronger yen could affect earnings of exporters.

The Nikkei was down 1.77% at 38,388.62 points.

In Sydney the S&P ASX 200 closed up 0.12% at 7,980.40 points, while in Seoul the KOSPI closed down 0.86% at 2,674.0.4 points.

Other leading Asian markets were trading higher.

In late trade, the Shanghai Composite index was up 0.54% at 2,894.85 points and the Hong Kong Hang Seng index was up 0.93% at 17,593.00 points. In Mumbai the Sensex index rose 0.10% to 80,521.18 points.
