Asian shares close little changed ahead of Powell speech

Nikkei up 0.40%, ASX 200 down 0.04%, KOSPI down 0.22% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Tokyo, 23 Aug - Asian shares closed little changed ahead of ahead of a key speech from the US Federal Reserve chief Jerome Powell.

Investors are hoping that today's appearance by Powell at the Jackson Hole Symposium will provide insight into where US interest rates will be going this year.

The Nikkei was up 0.40% at 38,364.27 points.

In Sydney, the S&P ASX 200 closed down 0.04% at 8,023.90 points, ending a 10-day winning streak, while in Seoul the KOSPI closed down 0.22% at 2,701.69 points.

In late trade, the Shanghai Composite index was up 0.20% at 2,854.47 points and the Hong Kong Hang Seng index was down 0.34% at 17,581.00 points. In Mumbai the Sensex index grew 0.03% to 81,077.93 points.
