Tokyo Nikkei 225 up 0.74%, S&P ASX 200 up 0.58% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Tokyo , 30 Aug - Asian shares closed higher after gains on Wall Street overnight.

Most Asian markets were still headed for a monthly loss in August after a sharp drop at the beginning of the month.

Technology stocks were higher in Asian dealings after slipping yesterday on lower-than-expected results from US chip maker Nvidia.

Inflation data from Tokyo for August released today came in slightly higher than expected as private spending was strengthened further amid higher wages, while industrial production and retail sales data for July missed expectations.

The Nikkei index closed up 0.74% at 38,647 points. In Sydney the S&P ASX 200 closed up 0.58% at 8,091 points, while in Seoul the KOSPI closed up 0.46% at 2,674 points .

The Shanghai Composite index was up 0.76% at 2,874 points and the Hong Kong Hang Seng index was up 1.74% at 18,088 points.

In Mumbai the Sensex index rose 0.35% to 82,424 points.
