US Q1 current account deficit 237.6 bln usd

Wider than forecast (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Washington, 20 Jun - The US current account deficit, which reflects the combined balances on trade in goods and services and income flows between US residents and residents of other countries, widened by 15.9 billion dollars, or 7.2%, to 237.6 billion dollars in the first quarter of 2024, according to statistics from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).

Economists had forecast a reading of 207.0 billion dollars.

The revised fourth quarter deficit was 221.8 billion dollars.

The first quarter deficit was 3.4% of current dollar gross domestic product, up from 3.2% in the fourth quarter, it said.
