US May unemployment rate 4.0%, vs 3.9% in April (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Washington, 07 Jun - US nonfarm payroll employment increased by 272,000 month on month in May, while the unemployment rate inched higher to 4.0%, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.

Economists were expecting employment to increase by 182,000 units and the unemployment rate was expected to be unchanged at 3.9%.

The labor force participation rate, at 62.5%, was little changed as too was the employment-population ratio at 60.1%.
