Above expectations (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Washington, 05 Jun - The Institute for Supply Management's index of non-manufacturing activities, a gauge of the US service sector, rose to 53.8 in May from 49.4 in April.

Expectations were for a reading of 51.0.

A reading above 50 indicates expansion.

The business activity index rose to 61.2 from 50.9 in April, while the new orders index in May rose to 54.1 from 52.2.
